If you have seen the movie Toy Story then you must remember the one liner Buzz Lightyear always used to pull: “To infinity and beyond…….” Now Buzz may not have known it but this catchphrase sums up the spirit of the entrepreneur. Entrepreneurship is all about attitude. You can have the money, the resources, and the expertise but if you don’t have the spirit for entrepreneurship, you basically have nothing. Let’s look at how this catchphrase relates to the entrepreneurial spirit in real life.
Now getting to infinity is hard enough, going beyond or ever thinking about it means you are an optimist. It means you look forward to the journey and have set out on a positive note and attitude makes all the difference in achieving what you have set out for.
As an entrepreneur, you need a vision of the future or at least be able to predict some future events with certain accuracy. You need to be ready for the unpredictable and expect the unexpected. In short, you need to know that there is a beyond after the infinity you are aiming for.
The wild ones are usually mocked until they achieve what they have set out to do. Then it’s the same people who once mocked them, telling everyone how they met them before they made it. The bridge between these two stages is passion. The kind of passion that pushes you to your infinity and once you reach it, it pushes you some more to go beyond.
Nobody really expects an entrepreneur to yell out a catchphrase when he is about to go work on something but that does not mean you can’t promote or talk about your vision. If you are about to achieve something small or big, talk about it. There is no shame in self-promotion. Do not be afraid of letting others know of what you think either, that’s the only way to get opinions other than yours.
Risk Taking Executors
Entrepreneurs don’t mince words. They take action, risky action. The words they speak are not for the moment but they are a call to taking the next calculated risk. Just like the words of Buzz Lightyear, they show their intent of taking a risk and actually going through with it.
Now some say, entrepreneurship can’t be taught, it has to be built in by birth. While that maybe arguable but there is no denying that these qualities can be nurtured within an individual. They may not make an entrepreneur out of them, but it should instill some of the entrepreneurial spirit in them which can help them in other aspects of life. As a whole, if you want to become an entrepreneur, or you think you already are one, make sure you check if you are looking to go “To infinity and beyond”!!
